Today, it’s not easy to make a speech in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) because there are attempts to present Azerbaijan completely unfairly, Samad Seyidov, head of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE, said at the Assembly’s spring session on April 23, APA reports.
Seyidov made the remarks with regard to the mention of his name in corruption report by PACE’s Independent External Investigation Body.
"I have been put on the list of offenders. At first, I did not want to come to the meeting. Then I realized that the course of events was changing. The report is open to everyone. See Article 43 of that report. It is said that Mr Seyidov has nothing to do with any act of corruption. It seems from the report that I cooperated with the research team and talked to them for 2-3 hours. It is alleged that I broke the code of conduct, because someone e-mailed me, but I did not. I have been in the PACE for 18 years. We are currently awaiting the decision of the Committee on Rules of Procedure,” he said.
“I’ve been in PACE for 18 years and no one can accuse me of corruption,” Seyidov stressed.
He went on to say: “But the matter concerns my country. Azerbaijan wants to live in a civilized world. A certain process is going on, and I’m concerned about this. Look at the details and be objective. Comprehend that the issue is not about people. It is about new independent countries that want to create an independent society. Then you will understand everything.”
PACE’s Independent External Investigation Body prepared a report on corruption facts within the organization. The report was presented to the Bureau. The Bureau made the report public.
The report includes the names of Head of Azerbaijan's delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov, co-rapporteurs Stefan Schennach, Cezar Florin Preda, former PACE president Pedro Agramunt, Spanish parliamentarian Jordi Xucla, etc.
