Azerbaijani FM: "Development of transport and connectivity projects in OIC region is of great importance"

On November 27, Azerbaijani foreign minister Jeyhun Bayramov has attended the 25th meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.

Speaking at a meeting chaired by Turkmenistan in Ashgabad, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov spoke about Azerbaijan-OIC relations, implementation and deepening of cooperation in priority areas of the OIC, as well as the current situation in the region, post-conflict reconstruction in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, the situation in Afghanistan, which is a member of the OIC, as well as the initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan as chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in the fight against global challenges and the work done in this regard.

In his speech, the Minister noted that Azerbaijan is interested in expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with the OIC: “Next year it will be the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan's membership in the organization. During this period, our country has constructively participated in various initiatives to expand economic and trade ties in the region.

Reforms within the framework of OIC have been successfully implemented, but this is a continuous process: "It is important to assess the progress we have made in the implementation of the OIC Vision 2025, and this will allow us to provide appropriate action to ensure the expected results. Azerbaijan welcomes the holding of a number of ministerial meetings, including in the fields of economy, transport, energy, and health, as well as other high-level events to strengthen regional cooperation under the chairmanship of Turkmenistan, and appreciates the preparations and relief work by the OIC Secretariat.

Cooperation in the field of trade, transportation, energy is the priority area of OIC. It is important to include sustainable energy and regional electricity trade in our regional energy agenda. Azerbaijani highly appreciates the support of the OIC member countries to the offer to host "Clean Energy Center". Development of transport and connectivity in the OIC region is of great importance".
