103 years have passed since the establishment of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, APA reports.

On June 26, 1918, by the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first regular military unit - the Detached Corps of Azerbaijan was established in Ganja. After the collapse of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1920 the Army was released and was again created according to the decree of the Supreme Council dated October 9, 1991.

Currently, the Azerbaijani army is considered the strongest and most modern army in the South Caucasus region in terms of both combat capability and material and technical capabilities.

The Armed Forces of Azerbaijan have three branches: the Azerbaijani Land Forces, the Azerbaijani Air and Air Defence Force, and the Azerbaijani Navy.
