President Vladimir Putin believes that Russia and the United States have good prospects for cooperation, but relations can improve only after domestic political issues in Washington are resolved, ONA reports citing TASS.

"I believe that many decisions are made bilaterally under the pressure of domestic political factors," he said at a plenary session of the International Arctic Forum, referring to relations between Russia and the US. "We hope that when this situation normalizes, this will pave the way for bilateral cooperation on all issues, which I mentioned, specifically, terrorism, epidemics, environmental problems and disarmament. I think all of us are interested in that. As soon as conditions are created in the US, we will be working," Putin said.

According to the Russian leader, it depends, first and foremost, on the US when this work will begin. "Whether we want that or not, that does not depend on us," he said.

"We respect the American people’s choice, whoever is elected president [in 2020], we are ready to work with him," Putin concluded.
