The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia views the need of increasing the oil transit tariff by 23% as unjustified after the teleconference with Belarusian authorities, FAS department head Dmitry Makhonin told TASS on Wednesday, ONA reports.

The teleconference with colleagues from the Belarusian ministry of antimonopoly regulation and trade was held early this week, the official said.

"Colleagues presented arguments that had already been made public in mass media. We considered these arguments were not justifying the tariff increase. Accordingly, the issue goes to the sphere of scheduled regulation of tariffs now," Makhonin said.

The scheduled review of tariffs is to take place from February 1, 2020, he said. If no mutually acceptable decision is found in this case also, the tariff will be adjusted upward by 3% from the level of inflation in Russia, the official added.
