UK ambassador to Azerbaijan Carole Crofts on Wednesday met with media representatives in connection with World Press Freedom Day, APA reported.
The ambassador mentioned that 3 May was proclaimed World Press Freedom Day the UN General Assembly in 1993 following a Recommendation adopted at the twenty-sixth session of UNESCO's General Conference in 1991. She noted that Azerbaijan is an active member of UNESCO. Ms Crofts reminded that Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu has been nominated for the post of UNESCO Secretary General.
The diplomat stressed that free, quality journalism is greatly needed in the modern age.
