“Issues on swapping of hostages is always on the agenda of negotiations,” Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova stated at today’s briefing, said Maria Zakharova, Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation at a briefing while responding to the question “What is the problem between Azerbaijan and Armenia on the issue of swapping hostages in accordance with principle “all to all?”, APA's Moscow bureau reports.
Russian MFA official stated that the issue of exchange of detainees was discussed in the meeting held in Moscow in April of this year: “Russian, Azerbaijani, and Armenian FMs and Co-chairs of OSCE Minsk Group participated in this meeting. Sides reached a mutual agreement on relatives’ of the persons, detained in prison, being able to meet with them in the meeting. As you know, Azerbaijani and Armenian citizens returned to their homelands in June of this year with the mediation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). We welcome the action, which is very important and consider it as the first step in the direction of the exchange of persons detained in prison.”
According to her, the work is underway regarding other detainees being kept in prison: "If an agreement is reached on the exchange of detained persons, we will definitely support it."
