President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach said on Thursday that he expects the Tokyo Olympics to go ahead in spite of the coronavirus pandemic. "We have at this moment, no reason whatsoever to believe that the Olympic Games in Tokyo will not open on the 23rd of July in the Olympic stadium in Tokyo," Bach said, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The games were scheduled for the summer of 2020 but were postponed due to the pandemic. Bach stated that "there is no plan B and this is why we are fully committed to make these games safe and successful." However, he stressed the importance of safety and added the IOC has to be "flexible" when it comes to the number of spectators present.
