Russian peacekeepers in the role of savior of Armenian separatists: Moscow should give explanations - ANALYTICS

While Armenian separatists began to hold protest rallies in Nagorno-Karabakh, the first address of the Azerbaijani people was Moscow. Everyone thought that the Kremlin eventually would prevent steps that lead to the collapse of the USSR and damage Russia's image. However, it did not happen. Instead of preventing separatism from spreading throughout the Union, Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev sent troops into Baku, which resulted in the collapse of the USSR. The unfair position of Russia and the Russian army in the subsequent processes, the support of Armenia, and the separatists played a decisive role in the Karabakh issue and resulted in the occupation of the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding regions of Azerbaijan for almost 30 years.

Although the situation has strictly changed after the 44-day war, the Russian factor still plays an important role in the region, and it is no secret. Azerbaijan takes into account the factor of Russia, which is a close and big neighbor. Given the Kremlin's influence, Baku believes that Moscow can play an active role in resolving the conflict.

As a result of a 44-day counter-offensive, Azerbaijan was able to liberate its occupied territories. Although Baku was able to eradicate Armenian separatism on its own, Azerbaijan made a big gesture and signed a joint statement on November 10, 2020 with the participation of the President of Russia and the Prime Minister of Armenia, allowing the peaceful capitulation of Armenians. Azerbaijani public opinion knew that the hypocritical Armenian separatists were waiting for an opportunity. However, in order to avoid additional casualties, the Armenians were given time to evacuate the territories. By giving Russia an additional 10 days to evacuate Kalbajar, Baku has demonstrated its commitment to the November 10 agreement. There was no trust in Armenian fascism in this matter. However, the joint statement was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the screams of the Armenians could, first of all, damage the image of Russia and its leader.

Baku also allowed Russian peacekeepers to enter the conflict zone to ensure a lasting ceasefire, despite external pressure. Anyone with a more or less understanding of geopolitics understood that this step was not an ordinary one, and Baku was able to make a decision. In Azerbaijan, they believed that, unlike 30 years ago, Russia would be fair this time, sticking to its signature. However, only one month was enough to shake this confidence.

Unfortunately, Russia has already begun to go beyond the limits set out in the joint statement of November 10. Russia's presentation of a new map of Nagorno-Karabakh could not but cause serious dissatisfaction, regret and surprise in the Azerbaijani public. This can be seen, first of all, as disrespect to the signature of the Russian President, who acts as a guarantor.

By manipulating the new maps, Russia is allowing peacekeepers to go beyond their mission. Russia's violation of its obligations is clear. Azerbaijan cannot bear it.

As is known, Armenian terrorists again attacked Azerbaijani Army soldiers and civilians in the villages of Kohne Taglar and Chaylaggala in the Khojavend region, resulting in martyrs and wounded. As a result of appropriate measures taken by our army, enemy provocations were prevented, and the Kohne Taghlar and Chaylaggala are now controlled by Azerbaijan. This fact also gives grounds to say that if there are new cases of provocation and violations against our country, the response of our Army will be very harsh.

Russia should understand this.

Russia must also understand that the deployment of peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh has not been unequivocally welcomed by the Azerbaijani public. Russia's confidence limit was already low. The new developments have further eroded confidence in Russia's peacekeepers, even disappointing those who are optimistic about the Kremlin.

Everyone knows that after the events on the state border in the direction of Tovuz in July this year, as well as during the 44-day war, Russia intensively armed Armenia on various routes. Armenia fired on Ganja and Barda, which are far from the front line, with the weapons that Russia provided to Armenia free of charge. At the same time, Baku considers that Russia is a close and big neighbor, a factor that should not be overlooked. Instead, what is Russia doing? Russian peacekeepers are once again taking steps to support terrorists and separatists, thus exacerbating distrust in Russia in Azerbaijani society. It turns out that every time the Azerbaijani Army tries to neutralize the provocative Armenian separatists, the Russian peacekeepers, whose task is to punish the separatists and expel the terrorists from the region, will come together and protect them, and the separatist-terrorists will be inspired.

Moscow must take into account that the Azerbaijani Army has written history in 44 days, and no one can show us muscle anymore. There are nationalist groups in Russia. They may offer to repeat the plans implemented in Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova in Azerbaijan, but Azerbaijan is a different country. The 44-day war also showed that we can unite as an "iron fist" against the enemy. Nationalist forces in Russia must understand that it is inappropriate to speak in a violent language with Azerbaijan. Armenians must also understand that if they trust Russian nationalist groups and dream of revenge, they will be crushed again with an "iron fist".

In fact, the November 10 agreement can be considered a test for Russia. Not only Armenia will be crushed after every step taken against Azerbaijan, but at the same time Russia's image in Azerbaijan will be damaged.

Today, the Azerbaijani public rightly asks who authorized Russian peacekeepers to draw a map a day and put it into circulation. Why the Russian Interior Ministry, which presented the area where the incident took place as Jabrayil region on the map until December 12, then decided to present this area as Hadrut region on December 13? From what logic of the author of the new "map" is created?

Is it the nationalists or the Kremlin doing this? Regardless of who does this, there is one truth - it will not be possible to talk about a ceasefire until the Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh are completely disarmed. The ceasefire will thus be fragile and the issue will remain unresolved. The Russian peacekeepers, who come up with a new "map" every day, should understand that they have not come to rest and publish new "maps", they are also in danger, they can stay in the middle of the line of fire, and the Armenians and all forces violating the November 10 agreement.

Peacekeepers must be impartial. The activities of the peacekeepers were confirmed by a tripartite statement signed on November 10. It is not the duty of a peacekeeper to transport Armenians from Yerevan to Khankendi. The task of the peacekeeper is not to hand over his machine gun to Armenian children in Khankendi, nor to teach them the rules of using weapons. Russian peacekeepers do not seem to understand that one of their tasks is to disarm the region, not to arouse children's interest in weapons and war...

Peacekeepers are not engineers. There is no need to build thousands of houses for Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh. It is inappropriate to act as a host in these areas. Russia and Armenia do not own this geography. The owner of the land in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan has enough opportunities to carry out construction work in Nagorno-Karabakh.

But these are the visible sides. Observations suggest that Armenian separatists are preparing for an asymmetric war. The fact that Armenian militants still remain in the region, and the occasional meetings with the leader of the separatist regime Araik Harutyunyan, show that the Armenians will soon begin to carry out their insidious intentions. The fact that the peacekeepers remain spectators rightly causes dissatisfaction among the citizens of Azerbaijan.

There is another point to note here. Russia's "map game" and terrorist acts by Armenian separatists took place after the Victory Parade in Baku and the participation of the Turkish President in this event.

Those irritated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's participation in the victory parade must understand that Russia must take into account the interests of the Azerbaijani people, both in the implementation of the peacekeeping mission in Nagorno-Karabakh and in the region, otherwise Baku may continue the anti-terrorist operation. Some circles in Russia should understand that the traditional restrictions on agricultural exports from Azerbaijan, as well as in other countries, and the fact that it is very simply covered by sanitary and epidemiological requirements, is nothing but an artificial obstacle. The Azerbaijani public sees and understands this. This leads to the strengthening of anti-Russian tendencies in Azerbaijan, and these tendencies are becoming stronger.

Another interesting fact is that the views of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan on the importance of rapprochement with Azerbaijan and Turkey should have been considered a lifeline for Yerevan. Pashinyan's statement meant a renunciation of the separatist regime. The Pashinyan government was expected to leave the separatist regime alone on the battlefield. However, not only separatists, but also Russian nationalist circles are concerned about this process. The point is that the separatist regime depends more on Russia than on official Yerevan. This is evident from the warm relations of Russian peacekeepers with the separatist regime. The separatists, desperate for Pashinyan, want to take refuge in Moscow. In general, it is no secret that the Karabakh clan in Armenia is connected to Moscow. Today, the political forces united around this clan are also accusing Nikol Pashinyan of treason.

There is also a point here. Tensions in Karabakh may serve to divert attention from domestic problems. In any case, the next defeat of Pashinyan, who once suffered a heavy defeat in Karabakh, seems inevitable. In this process, both the separatists and all political circles of Armenia were defeated. Russian peacekeepers do not save them, but aggravate their situation with a "map game".

The struggle for the restoration of our territorial integrity continues. If the Russian peacekeepers' arbitrariness in Karabakh is not stopped, the process may take a darker turn. The new map scandal violates the Kremlin's commitment. This behavior of Russian peacekeepers could ignite a new war.

It should be noted that many were irritated by the visit of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs to Baku and Armenia and the historical and unforgettable lesson given to them by President Ilham Aliyev. Baku is determined and able to restore its territorial integrity to the end. Instead of a peacekeeper, an Azerbaijani soldier is able to do this.

But such a question arises: if Baku will do it itself, then what is the need for peacekeepers?! Why should Azerbaijan face the world powers? The manipulation of the map is a clear violation of Russia's obligations, and an official statement should be made soon. Baku expects explanations from Moscow
