22 new seismic stations to be set around mud volcanoes in Azerbaijan

Republican Seismological Service Center under Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences has started the implementation of the project Seismic Network Expansion in the Caucasus and Central Asia with the support of Ukrainian Science and Technology Center, the center told APA.

The purpose of the project is expansion of seismic network in Caucasus and Central Asia and renovation of techno-park, which will be used for conduction of seismic researches. To this end, 22 new seismic stations will be set in the territory of Azerbaijan. New seismic stations will also allow observing activity of Bozdagh-Gobu and Lokbatan mud volcanoes, located nearby Absheron peninsula.
