The earthquake of 6,6 points’ magnitude that occurred in Turkey’s Izmir City on October 30 caused great destructions. A great number of people lost their life and sustained injury as a result of the earthquake. Later on. On November 3, the weakly sensed earthquake occurred in the Caspian Sea, while on November 4 – in Imishli. And this caused certain concern to people.

Director of the Republican Seismological Service Center (RSSC) Gurban Yetirmishli making statement to APA in regard to this issue said during this year, approximately up to 4,000 earthquakes took place in Azerbaijan: “Not a day goes by without an earthquake occurring in our country, approximately 25-30 earthquakes occur every day. 18 out of them have been weakly sensed ones so far."

"There is approximately 2,000 km distance between Izmir and Azerbaijan. The tectonic faults in the earthquake occurred in Izmir and the tectonic faults in our country are completely different things if addressed through the lens of geological viewpoint. It doesn’t have impact on our country and the earthquakes sensed in Azerbaijan in recent days is not a reverberation of the earthquake in Izmir”, he said.
