Moderna Inc announced on Thursday that it's making new investments to increase the global supply of its coronavirus vaccine to three billion doses by 2022, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The company will focus funds on its own and partner with manufacturing facilities in Spain, Switzerland and the United States, with production expected to increase in late 2021 and early 2022 to fill the need for booster shots.

"We thank our manufacturing partners for their work and their commitment. Together with our partners, Moderna is committed to continuously developing best-in-class variant boosters so we can end this pandemic as fast as possible," Chief Executive Officer of Moderna Stephane Bancel stated.

Moderna also declared that it may lengthen the one-month refrigeration shelf life of its vaccine to three months based on ongoing development data. The planned investments follow an agreement with Sanofi to help manufacture Moderna's coronavirus vaccines.
