The World Health Organization (WHO) issued advice for doctors on coronavirus, stating that they should not use remdesivir, a drug made by Gilead Sciences Inc., as a treatment for COVID-19, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The WHO said it based its decision on data received from a number of international trials including over 7,000 patients.

The organization's expert panel concluded that "remdesivir has no meaningful effect on mortality or on other important outcomes for patients, such as the need for mechanical ventilation or time to clinical improvement." The WHO has already questioned the United States Food and Drug Administration's approval of the drug.
