Ancient graves discovered during the construction of a school in Guba

During the construction of a school in the village of Giriz, Guba, ancient graves and pottery were found, Guba District Education Department told APA's northern bureau.

The construction of a 20-seat modular school in Giriz village began in June.

The graves were discovered in the area dug for the auxiliary building during the construction of the school.

They are believed to date back to the XI-XII centuries. More accurate and detailed information will be known after the study of archaeologists in the area.

The construction of the school was stopped and the relevant government agencies were informed about the fact.

Specialists of the State Service for Protection, Development and Restoration of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture and the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences will inspect the area where the ancient graves were discovered.

Giriz village of Guba is located on the banks of the Gudyalchay River, at the foot of the White Mountain, at an altitude of 2,200 meters above sea level.
