Committee chairman: “Armenians can live in Azerbaijan as citizens of our country, as they lived before the war ”

“Apparently, you know that in the same way Azerbaijanis also lived in Khankendi, Khojaly, and Aghdara. They were expelled from there as a result of ethnic cleansing. Currently, Armenians are living there. The trilateral statement reached last year, envisages the return of all IDPs to the places they lived before the conflict. I believe that in the future when the passions slow down the form of this return will also be considered,” said Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons of Azerbaijan Rovshan Rzayev in his interview with “Izvestiya” while responding to the question of the possibility of returning the Armenians to Hadrut, APA reports.

The committee chairman said that Baku has repeatedly confirmed the readiness of integrating the Armenian population of former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region, in the territory of Azerbaijan.

“But a right of living in any territory does not mean a right of separation of the territory. That is why, answer to your question is – yes, they can live in Azerbaijan as citizens of our country as they lived before the way as they live in other countries of the world – in Russia, France, the US. However, if 100,000 Armenians live in Marcel, for example, it does not mean Paris must create one more Armenian state in Marcel.

Representatives of more than 50 nations live in Azerbaijan and they do not have any problem. Sometimes they even live better than in their historical homeland. I believe that Armenians can live in Azerbaijan as they have lived so far. In addition, better than their current living. Condition created in our country for other nations and national minorities will also be created for them.”

R. Rovshan noted that provision of security for all people living in Azerbaijan is given by the state, its Constitution, and laws: “Guarantor of all of these is President of the country Ilham Aliyev. By the way, according to calculations of Russian journalists, President noted the possibility of the co-existence of Armenians and Azerbaijanis for more than 20 times at even the most intense times of the war. I also believe that Armenians and Azerbaijanis will be able to live together. It is unequivocal. But, time and passing through a difficult way are required for co-existence. Neither Armenia, nor Azerbaijan will move thousands of kilometers away from here. So, we should learn to live together. An alternative of it is eternal war. It means co-existence does not have an alternative from people’s interests point-of-view.”
