The World Health Organization announced on Wednesday that it has proposed 26 experts to its New Scientific Advisory Group for the Origins of novel pathogens, some of which already served on the organization's mission to Wuhan, China in order to find the source of the coronavirus, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The WHO named the candidates from applicants who responded to an open call published in August, looking for "greatest scientific minds" to investigate and advise on "high-threat pathogens," with the intention of preventing the next pandemic.

"Understanding where new pathogens come from is essential for preventing future outbreaks with epidemic and pandemic potential and requires a broad range of expertise" WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom said expressing contentment with the makeup of the selected cohort.
