General Anti-Narcotics Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has removed 512 kilograms of narcotics worth AZN 20 mln from illegal circulation on the "black" market in the last month, APA reports citing MIA.
Noted that the fight against drugs, which have a negative impact on our national gene pool, is one of the main priorities of the MIA. In this area, intensive operational measures were carried out in the territory by the employees of the Ministry's General Anti-Narcotics Department for the last 1 month. As a result, members of 8 organized gangs, including 83 people, were detained during the operations conducted in the capital and regions against the members of the transnational organized group in Azerbaijan, who smuggled narcotics from Iran to Azerbaijan, as well as against the people who organized the sale of drugs internally. 512 kilograms of drugs - cocaine, heroin, opium, marijuana, psychotropic substance - methamphetamine, as well as 13,000 ecstasy and methadone pills worth 20 million manats were removed from illegal circulation on the "black" market. In addition to the capital, the operations took place in the city of Sumgait, Absheron region, and regions. The employees of the General Administration decided to prevent the smuggling of narcotics into the country by boats from the Iranian shores of the Caspian Sea due to the difficult terrain, geographical and forest conditions.
