Under the President of the country, Ilham Aliyev, significant steps are being taken to promote stability and security, to strengthen the fight against crime, and to secure the principle of the necessity of punishment, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Justice told APA.
International cooperation in this field is valued, and bilateral agreements with different nations, extradition of criminals under multilateral European and CIS conventions, legal assistance, and other areas are effectively carried out.
The Second and Fourth Additional Protocols to the European Conventions on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, which Azerbaijan signed in April of this year, as well as the Second and Fourth Additional Protocols to the European Conventions on Extradition, which were ratified previously and entered into force in relation to our country last month, are intended to strengthen the fight against transnational crime and increase the efficiency of international cooperation in criminal cases, including a number of important changes, including sending documents electronically.
The Ministry of Justice's cultivation of tight working relationships with foreign partners, including representation on the management of the Council of Europe's Committee of Experts on Cooperation in Criminal Matters, makes involvement in this field more effective.
European countries make positive decisions regarding extradition in relation to our country as a result of measures to ensure human rights in our country, modernize the court and justice system, and improve the conditions of detention of convicts and accused persons in accordance with international standards.
Thus, four people who were accused of committing criminal acts such as theft, robbery, and smuggling large amounts of drugs by an organized gang and were subjected to an international search in recent months were brought to our country from Poland, Moldova, and Ukraine by responsible employees of the Ministry of Justice and the Penitentiary Service.
Recently, the extradition of a person accused of fraud and falsification of official documents from the Republic of Belarus to our country was achieved.
Criminals are stopped from feeling safe everywhere by supplying the principle of the necessity of punishment, which plays a unique role in the fight against crime.
The Ministry is continuing to take necessary measures in this field.
