Over the day, about 73,000 people have been infected with the coronavirus worldwide, and about 5,000 people have died from the virus, the World Health Organization said in its daily bulletin, APA reports.

According to statistics as of 10:00 Geneva time (13:00 Baku time) on April 2, 896,450 people worldwide have been infected with the COVID-19, and 45,526 people have become victims of this deadly virus. Over the past day, 72,839 people were diagnosed with coronavirus, and the number of deaths increased by 4,924.

The highest number of infections and deaths was registered in Europe - 503,006 infections and 33,604 deaths. During the day, the number of infected people increased by 38,809, and the number of deaths increased by 3,515.

A total of 216,912 people were infected with the coronavirus and 4,565 died in North and South America.

The third highest number of infections is in the Western Pacific, which includes China, the Republic of Korea and Japan. As of April 2, 107,626 infections and 3,723 deaths were registered here.

According to the WHO, the highest number of infected people in the United States - 187,302. It is followed by Italy (110,574), Spain (102,136), China (82,724) and Germany (73,522).
