German officials are silently preparing for any sudden cuts in Russian gas supplies with an emergency package that could include taking control of critical firms, APA reports citing Reuters.
The preparations, led by the Ministry of Economy, show an increased vigilance about the gas supply that feeds Europe’s largest economy and is crucial for the production of steel, plastics and machinery.
Russian gas accounted for 55% of German imports last year, and Berlin came under pressure to ease business ties, which critics say helped fund the Russia- Ukraine war.
