Finland's accession to NATO will increase the possibility of escalation and the risk of a direct armed conflict between the alliance and Russia, said Dora Duro, Vice-Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament, APA reports.
"If Finland joins NATO, the distance between the North Atlantic Alliance and Russia will grow by 1,340 kilometers. This increases the possibility of escalation and the risk of a direct armed war between a NATO member state and Russia," Duro said.
She pointed out that NATO is being utilized to defend American hegemony around the world. The United States was the one who forced the other alliance members to agree to the organization's growth. At the same time, Sweden and Finland have traditionally been independent and have remained neutral in foreign affairs for the past 200 years.
