A conference titled "Decolonization: Peaceful Revolution" today has been held at the UN headquarters in New York, USA, on the sidelines of the ongoing general discussions of the UN General Assembly, APA reports.
The conference was organized by the Baku Initiative Group, which was established on the outcomes of the event organized on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Baku on July 5-6 this year.
Representatives of the independence and nationalist movements of French overseas regions - New Caledonia, French Polynesia, French Guiana, Martinique, and Guadeloupe, and a representative of the Melanesian Spearhead Group attended the event.
The main purpose of the conference organized by the Baku Initiative Group was to hold discussions to benefit from the opportunities created by the adoption of resolution No. 75/123 “Fourth International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism” by the UN General Assembly.
Then, the participants of the conference were informed about the newly formed Baku Initiative Group, the commitment to anti-colonialism by the coordination office of the Non-Aligned Movement was discussed, participants made speeches on the situation in the regions they represent, and extended discussions were held regarding the topic of decolonization among the participants.
Finally, the final statement was read and adopted.
