On May 19, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov within the framework of his working visit to the Russian Federation, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told APA.
During the meeting, Azerbaijan-Russia bilateral cooperation relations, the current situation and prospects of the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia were discussed.
The parties expressed satisfaction with the level of multifaceted cooperative relations between Azerbaijan and Russia and said those relations have broad prospects. In addition, the special importance of the events held at a high level within the framework of the 100th anniversary of the National Leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev and the Year of Heydar Aliyev was emphasized.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that Azerbaijan is interested in establishing peace and stability in the region and the importance of agreeing and signing the peace agreement, as the initiator of the main elements of the peace process with Armenia.
At the same time, the Azerbaijani side brought to the attention of the Russian side other directions of normalization, such as Azerbaijan's position in the border delimitation negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia on a bilateral basis, as well as the process of opening transport and communications.
At the same time, the minister emphasized that the Armenian armed forces have not yet been completely withdrawn from the territory of Azerbaijan, contrary to the commitments accepted by Armenia, which is a source of serious threat to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.
The parties exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
