Visit of representatives of media organizations operating in Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic was organized by the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, APA reports.
The main purpose of the two-day visit is related to the 5th anniversary of the Gunnut operation. On the first day of the trip, media representatives visited Gunnut, which was liberated.
In the 1990s, Gunnut village, like many villages of Sharur region, was subjected to continuous enemy attacks. At that time, residential buildings, as well as schools and cemeteries in the occupied villages were destroyed by Armenian vandals and turned into ruins. As a result of Gunnut's fate, the majority of the village population was forced to move to Mahmudkand.
Under the instruction of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ilham Aliyev, from May 20 to 27, 2018, Gunnut village, Agbulag hill, Gizilgaya mountain, Garavaga mountain of Sharur region were liberated as a result of the operation conducted by the Separate Combined Arms Army in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The village of Arpa of Darelayaz district came under the control of the Azerbaijani Army.
As a result of the operation, an area of 11,000 hectares was liberated. This operation allowed the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan to control the Yerevan-Keshishkand-Gorus-Lachin-Khankandi highway.
Indeed, the Gunnut operation once again proved that the Azerbaijani Army is capable of winning great victories at any time. As he proved it in the 44-day Patriotic War.
