“The exclusively politicized statements of Armenian officials on Karabakh probably create tension. I think it would be better to avoid such statements," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference on the results of 2020, answering a question of APA's Moscow correspondent.

The Russian minister noted that we had already witnessed such statements before the start of the 44-day war: “We have witnessed such emotional statements as“ new war, new territories ”from Karabakh or about Karabakh. We have witnessed the transformation of words into material power. Now we are paying attention to creating contacts between the leadership of Azerbaijan and Armenia, an atmosphere of trust between the parties. This was one of the main issues of the Moscow meeting held on January 11. I hope that now emotions should recede into the background. Besides, now is not the right time to bring the status of Nagorno-Karabakh to the fore as a priority issue. I guarantee you one hundred percent that it is in this form that the status of Nagorno-Karabakh is practically established at present, as the zone of responsibility of Russian peacekeepers - this is a form that will ensure the interests of both the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides. "

Lavrov also noted that the agreements of November 9, 2020 enshrined the agreement of the parties to ensure communication between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh through the Lachin corridor, which will be under the control of Russian peacekeepers.

“The November 9 statement reflected the issue of creating a new corridor parallel to the Lachin corridor, as well as a corridor between the western regions of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan. Armenian officials are involved in humanitarian activities in Nagorno-Karabakh. Therefore, I see no reason to hinder these relations, ”the Russian Foreign Minister stressed.
