The Operation and Investigation Office under the Southern Territorial Main Customs Department has received operational information about the upcoming smuggling of massive amount of narcotic substances hidden under the title of “melon” cargo transported by Mercedes-Benz car, controlled by Azerbaijani citizen Allahverdi Mammadov Iman with a letter of attorney and a truck with a state plate 99BF868/99ZD868, press service of Public Relations and Press Department of State Customs Committee told APA.
The Mercedez-Benz driven by the citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan and truck with a state plate 99BF868/99ZD868 carrying the “melon” cargo to Ukraine in transit through our country were stopped and taken under customs control at Astara customs post of the Southern Territorial Main Customs Department.
Prior to customs control, the mentioned person has noted there is not anthing which should be hidden from customs control or should be declared to customs control, besides "melon" cargo, shown in relevant documents, in his truck.
However, during the control, conducted with application of kinological service dog, the dog has reacted to the trailer of the car. 26 packaged "melon" unloaded from the trailer and re-controlled with application of service dog. Then the dog reacted to 10 packages and the load has been controlled comprehensively.
During the control, 526 packages in 720 boxes in 10 palettes have been found. Light brown narcotic substances - heroin with a special smell, of which total weight is 545 kg 105 g with its package, has been found in the pressed form in packages.
