Five people of a family were killed Tuesday after a vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand, officials said, APA reports citing Xinhua.
The accident took place in Govindpur area of Dhanbad district, about 161 km northeast of Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand.
"Today morning a car carrying five members of a family skidded off a road near Kaldih More and fell into about 100 feet deep gorge," a police official at Govindpur said. "Following the accident, all five occupants of the car - two men, two women and a child - died on the spot."
According to police, the rescuers have retrieved bodies from the gorge.
Preliminary investigations revealed the ill-fated vehicle was being rashly driven, following which the driver suddenly lost control over it.
Deadly road accidents are common in India often caused due to overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving.
