Iran is not constructive in relation with Azerbaijan – Igor Korotchenko

“Iran is not constructive in relation with Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is an important trade-economic partner, Iran’s closest neighbor. The kind neighborhood between two countries meet interests of both Tehran and Baku,” editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine of Russia, famous military expert Igor Korotchenko told APA’s correspondent in Moscow.

According to him, Armenian impact, certainly, demonstrates itself in processes, ongoing in Azerbaijani-Iran relations currently: “It is possible that disinformation has been delivered to the Iranian leadership by Yerevan. I think the information on the alleged existence of Israeli military specialists in the territory of Azerbaijan is disinformation, which has been disseminated purposefully. Yes, Azerbaijan has military-technical cooperation with Israel. It is a normal case, just as tens of countries in the world cooperate with Israel in the military-technical field. The fact has never disturbed anyone so far. Iran reacts inadequately suddenly now. We see that Tehran’s certain economic, financial, and political interests have been touched upon here. Firstly, we saw smuggling during 30 years, when Azerbaijani territories were under occupation. During smuggling that continued over decades, cargos from Iran continued to be sent in the direction of separatist regime in Karabakh. After Azerbaijan liberated its lands from the occupation and carried out legal procedures there, involving Iranian cargo trucks in Azerbaijan’s customs duties first caused strong protests from Armenia and then from Iran. I think that today Armenian elite plays Iranian card, so that Baku and Tehran to clash, relations between the two countries to be difficult. In all cases, I think that intelligent logic will prevail over emotions in Iranian leadership. Iran should understand that confrontation with Azerbaijan will bring it absolutely no dividend. Iran should understand that it is used in this ugly game. Foreign actors, foreign manipulators, as well as Armenian lobby in the world stand behind this ugly game.”
