CMO Chairman and Georgian Ambassador to Azerbaijan discuss letter of Ilia II regarding Keshikchidagh

On October 10, Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh received the Ambassador of Georgia to Azerbaijan Zurab Pataradze at the Caucasus Muslims Office, Caucasian Muslims Office told APA.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the religious and spiritual relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia.

It was stated that these historically tested bonds have always been able to maintain their high level thanks to the wisdom of our peoples, governmental leaders and religious leaders.

Emphasizing the infinite respect and great confidence in the Patriarch, whom he calls friend and brother, Sheikh ul-Islam, stated that he highly appreciates the wisdom displayed by the Patriarch as a Caucasian elder in the most difficult times for the region, his contribution to the peaceful settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno Garabagh conflict, and his role as a mediator in the peaceful negotiations of Caucasian religious leaders.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the issue of the Keshikchidag complex in the territory of Azerbaijan and exchanged views on the recent letter of the Patriarch to Sheikh-ul-Islam A. Pashazadeh.

Speaking to the ambassador, the CMO head stressed that the issue of Kesikchidag is of interstate character and hopes that the issue will be solved within the framework of sovereignty of Azerbaijan by the relevant intergovernmental commissions based on the existing principles of traditional friendship, brotherhood and neighborliness between Azerbaijan and Georgia.

Some months ago Patriarch Ilia II said in his statement on issue around Keshikchidagh complex: “Unfortunately, while analyzing what is happening there it gives impression that external force who wants to create serious problems between Azerbaijan and Georgia use church issue in order to achieve their goals. But provocations should not be followed easily.”

The ambassador expressing gratitude to Allahshukur Pashazade for invitation stated that measures on the resolution of issue around Kesikchikdağ by intergovernmental commissions are underway, there is a progress, and issue will be resolved step by step through negotiations. It was unanimously decided that external forces that provoke this issues serve to cunning intentions. The ambassador stressed that it will not be allowed external forces to damage relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia and noted that he believes in wisdom of religious leaders of Azerbaijan and Georgia. At the end of the meeting the ambassador mentioned that he will deliver greetings of Sheikhulislam and information about the meeting to Patriarch Ilia II.
