The British government imposed sanctions against the leader of one of the main opposition parties in Moldova, “Shor” Ilan Shor, and the Moldovan oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc, APA reports citing TASS.
“The following items have been added to the unified (sanctions list – approx. “Tapes.ru”) and are now subject to asset freezes: Vladimir Plahotniuc, Ilan Shor,” British officials said in the document.
Earlier, Vice Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament Vlad Batryncha said that the country’s authorities, under the guise of fighting corruption, are persecuting political opponents and initiating cases against opposition representatives. The politician called the campaign against bribes and embezzlement, initiated by the country’s leadership, manipulation in the absence of real changes.
