France hopes that a new round of consultations on a peaceful settlement of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine will be held before the G20 leaders’ summit in New Delhi in September, said Bloomberg referring to a high-ranking French diplomat, APA reports.

According to him, none of the southern countries demanded Russia’s participation in the next round of negotiations.

According to the diplomat, China has taken a “constructive approach” to the talks while insisting on a ceasefire. France called it unacceptable as it would “virtually freeze Russia’s positions in place”.

The two-day talks in Jeddah began on 5 August. More than 30 countries participate in them. Russia was not invited, but they promised to inform on the results. According to Corriere della Sera, at the end of the first day, the participants agreed that any peace agreement should be based on respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and the supremacy of the UN Charter.

The G20 Leaders’ Summit will be held in New Delhi from 9 to 10 September. The Kremlin reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin has not yet decided whether he will attend the summit in person or via video link.
