"The EU stood by the partners in the region in difficult time of pandemic crisis", said European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi at Eastern Partnership Youth Engagement Summit, which has been held virtually for the first time, APA reports.
He noted that the EU put forward substantial package to respond to immediate health needs and to help with the economic recovery: "When delivering support on the ground we have witnessed solidarity and cooperation firsthand. And I am happy to say today the EU remains the most trusted foreign institution among EaP citizens. This spirit of solidarity and resilience as well as young peoples' role we discussed in last month video conference of the leaders of the 27 EU MS and six EaP countries."
"We all agreed to work together on clear policy objectives: economy, connectivity, the green and digital transitions as well as fair and inclusive societies. All of these are areas key for the future. Therefore young people have a particular stake and role in them. Empowering young people in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine is and will remain priority for the EU in the years to come. Investing in youth is always the best investment. I am pleased to announce we will be launching new deal for the youth where we will work together with governments to ensure the skills the labour market needs. This will make youth competitive globally and allow them to find high-quality jobs also regionally. We will also enhance mobility and exchange programs including through Erasmus+. Under this program we aim to offer mobility opportunities to over 25 000 students, researchers, teachers, and 75 000 young people and youth workers from EaP region by 2025. Finally, we will support youth leadership and participation in policy-making by establishing network of youth councils", the Commissioner stressed.
