“Maral Najarian (Maralle Najarian), who was born in Lebanon Bourj Hammoud has citizenship of Armenia and Lebanon. She was detained by Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies in the former conflict zone together with a Lebanese citizen of Armenian descent who lived with her. She testified that she entered the territory of Azerbaijan illegally and committed other actions in violation of Azerbaijani legislation,” said the head of press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan Leyla Abdullayeva, APA reports.
“As a result of humanism demonstrated by the Azerbaijani side, M. Najarian was released on March 10, this year. We would like to note that she personally preferred to return to Lebanon, not to Armenia. We would like to note that as a result of discussions conducted with the Russian side, as she was a Lebanese citizen, it was not possible to send her through the territory of Russia. Therefore, M. Najarian was sent back to Lebanon through Turkey. In general, we want to state that currently, there are no women of Armenian origin detained in Azerbaijan. 5 women detained during Patriotic war, the majority was released during when military operations continued,” said the official of MFA.
