May 28 declared Republic Day of Azerbaijan in Miami-Dade city of USA

Carlos Gimenez, Mayor of Miami-Dade city of Florida has signed a declaration on declaring May 28, the Republic Day of Azerbaijan, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Washington told APA.
First of all, it was noted that Miami-Dade city makes efforts to multicultural diversity and to recognize the contribution of individuals and organizations. Thus stressing the strong presence of Azerbaijanis living in Florida, their contribution to diversity, intercultural understanding, peace and prosperity in the region were noted.
Carlos Gimenez said more than 46 mln Azerbaijanis in the world celebrate May 28 as a Republic Day of Azerbaijan over the past 100 years in order to celebrate the contribution of their ancestors. As well as the role of the Azerbaijan-American Cultural Association established on October 26, 2006, to promote this society was also recalled.
Then the document reads Azerbaijan is one of the first countries which ensured universal voting right and it is recognized by other democratic states including the US.
It has also been noted that this event is an honorable opportunity for the Miami-Dade to celebrate the relations between the United States and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Declaring May 28, 2020, as a Republic Day of Azerbaijan, Carlos Gimenez called on the residents of Miami-Dade city to join this holiday and jointly celebrate the efforts and achievements of Azerbaijani people.
