Azerbaijan condemns missile attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and such negative facts can even further worsen already tense situation in the region, said Hikmat Hajiyev, spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

He made the remarks at a press conference on the outcome of 2017 foreign policy in Baku Dec. 28, APA reports.

“We call for doubling diplomatic political efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region,” Hajiyev stressed.

The confrontation between the Saudi-led coalition and Houthi rebels has been continuing for years. There was an audacious but unsuccessful ballistic missile attack by Houthi rebels aimed at the Saudi king’s official residence in Riyadh on Dec. 19. It was the third such missile attack mounted by Houthis inside a month and was intercepted by the Saudi air force south of the capital.
