Co-chair of EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee issued statement
# 19 January 2023 22:21 (UTC +04:00)

The Co-chair of the EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, MP Tural Gangaliyev, has commented in the statement regarding the 19 Jan 2023 statement made by the co-Chair of the Delegation for relations with the South Caucasus, MEP Marina Kuljurand, APA reports.

The statement reads: “Unfortunately, Marina Kuljurand continues her slander against Azerbaijan as a paid Armenian propagandist. In all my previous interactions with her I always hoped to come to constructive terms for the sake of developing productive bilateral relations between the European and Azerbaijani parliaments. During her tenure as the co-Chair of the PCC she frequently visited Armenia but not even once did she visit Azerbaijan which is the largest country in the South Caucasus. As the co-Chair of the PCC responsible for the region, she has turned blind eye to the 30 years of Armenian brutal occupation, bloody ethnic cleansing of Azerbaijanis, the mass killings of tens of thousands of innocent Azerbaijanis — including the Khojaly Genocide, the destruction of Azerbaijani cultural heritage, the mine contamination of the Azerbaijani lands, and last but not least, the detrimental damage inflicted on the environment. That said, she has no moral authority to talk about the so-called “humanitarian concerns” in the region. Now, this begs the question, what has been preventing Ms. Kuljurand from visiting Azerbaijan? Was it her shady ties with and obligations before the Armenian lobbyists? Given the recent corruption scandals at the EP involving high ranking officials, such as notorious pro-Armenian Eva Kaili, the answer is, “most likely, yes!”. Ms. Kuljurand latest anti-Azerbaijani speech at the EP is the outward manifestation of her hidden and shady personal pro-Armenian agenda, which needs thorough investigation by the EP. It is not befitting for the EP to delegate such a biased person to co-preside the committee on relations with the countries of the South Caucasus. Instead of contributing to the development of constructive relations with the EU partners, her actions do exactly the opposite. I call on the European Parliament and other relevant institutions to investigate her actions and revoke her role as the PCC co-chair.”
