WHO Representative: "90% of countries receiving vaccines are rich"

“COVID-19 is the worst pandemic that we have ever seen,” the WHO representative in Azerbaijan Hande Harmanci said at the international webinar “COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical aspects of vaccination” organized by the Center for International Relations Analysis, APA reports.

She noted that although the whole world faced with this pandemic, but poor countries suffer more from this: “Certainly, more vulnerable countries and more vulnerable groups of the population have been more affected. The good news is that the number of new coronavirus cases at the world level is being reduced up to 70 percent. But, the number of COVID-19 cases increases in some countries. We should not forget that the rules should be followed, because a new kind of viruses may appear.

According to her, we have reached an important phase in fighting against pandemic: “Inequality regarding pandemic increases. 90 percent of countries receiving vaccines are rich countries. Currently, 3,5 doses of vaccine have been distributed to 10 countries. 130 countries with a 3,5 mln population can not get any doses of vaccine. We must work together and eliminate inequality”.
