International regional exercise being held in Azerbaijan’s MES Academy  - PHOTOSESSİON

An international regional exercise on “Response to earthquakes” has been kicked off by Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan and UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) at MES Academy, APA reports.

The aim of the exercise is to improve the level of professional activity of exercise participants in giving quick reaction to possible emergency situations by state bodies, carrying out search-and-rescue operations timely and effectively, improving professional performance of exercise participants in the field of coordinating activity of international units, arrived for assistance, and carry out exchange of experience in this field.

The exercise is being attended by Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and other relevant government agencies, teams of member states of the UN International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG), as well as representatives of NATO, World Health Organization, OSCE, BP-Azerbaijan, MapAction company.

On November 5, the opening ceremony of the exercise has been held at the Academy of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Minister of Emergency Situations, Colonel-General Kamaladdin Heydarov, Belarus Minister of Emergency Situations Vladimir Vashchenko, Deputy Minister of Interior Affairs of Turkey Ismail Chatakli, Chief of the Secretariat of the UN International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) Rudolf Muller, UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, Ghulam Isaczai attended the event.
