Emergencies Ministry opens Baku Radioactive Waste center

The opening of the polygon was attended by Emergencies Minister Kamaladdin Heydarov, President’s assistant for military and security affairs Vahid Aliyev, Deputy Prime Minister Abid Sherifov, Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Huseyn Baghirov, Health Minister Ogtay Shireliyev and other state officials.
Director of Izotop plant Vugar Huseynov addressing the opening said that the establishment and logistics of the polygon have been supported by US Energy Agency, European Union and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). This polygon is one of the most up-to-date centers created in Europe in the past 50 years.
Minister Heydarov said a laboratory worth $4,3 million is built, and block of management of radioactive substances is established at the polygon.
The minister added the laboratories can be used for different researches. The center will have more opportunities in the future. /APA/
