“XBB. 1.5 strain is a subvariant of Omicron which World Health Organization (WHO) closely monitors. This strain's detected in a patient by GISAID company on October 22, 2022 for the first time,” says WHO Azerbaijan Office as a response to APA' query.

It's noted that the highest incidence of this strain is observed in U.S:

"WHO currently evaluates the properties of Omicron strains, such as transmissibility and virulence, as well as their impact on diagnostic, therapeutic and vaccine interventions. XBB. 1.5 reflects the features of other "Omicron" subvarianrs. In other words, it is highly contagious but less severe than the Delta strain. Due to its similarity to other Omicron subvariants, WHO does not currently recommend any changes in public health measures to combat this specific strain".
