Nine killed, 27 injured in collision between truck and passenger bus in India

At least nine people were killed and 27 injured in a collision between a truck and a passenger bus in Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh. The injured have been shifted to Trauma Centre in Lucknow, district magistrate of Barabanki said, APA reports citing Times Now News.

According to agency reports, the passenger bus was carrying 70 people, when it collided with a sand-carrying truck near the Baburi village in Barabanki. The bus was on its way to Bahraich from Delhi.

According to Superintendent of Police, Yamuna Prasad, the mishap took place when the bus driver tried to avoid hitting a stray cow. The injured have been rushed to a hospital in Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives in the incident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs two lakh for the next of kin of the deceased.

He also directed the district administration to provide the best medical care to those injured in the mishap.
