According to the information collected by the State Commission on Captives, Missing Persons and Hostages, including the testimony of witnesses, while residential settlements were occupied during the First Karabakh war, Azerbaijani citizens killed by the Armenian army and terrorist gang bands were buried in those territories, APA reports.
Carrying out exhumation by non-professional persons and careless behaviors with the body remains during the relevant works in the liberated territories from the occupation may lead to their various injuries, loss of information and evidence, as well as artifacts. Allowing such cases then can create serious problems in the identification of the remains of bodies later.
“Taking into consideration the above and importance of clarifying the future fate of our 3890 citizens who were registered as a missing people in the first Karabakh War, the relevant instruction has been given by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the interested bodies on immediate notification of the State Commission for the purpose of exhumation by specialists in case of discovery of mass and individual graves during construction works in the liberated territories on the basis of the application of the State Commission on captives and missing and hostages” noted in the information of the State Commission.
