Lawyer: Akif Mustafayev is not in Spain - <span style="color: red;">UPDATED

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. Akif Mustafayev was detained ten days ago in Lloret de Mar, Spain, and he was freed on the same day, his lawyer Abbas Atakishiyev told APA.

According to the lawyer, Mustafayev had been detained as he is wanted.

The lawyer said that he doesn’t know for what reason his defendant was released.

He added that Mustafayev is currently not in Spain and refused to disclose his whereabouts.

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. Akif Mustafayev, who is known as ‘Akula Akif’ and is said to have been the ex-right-hand man of Eldar Mahmudov, Azerbaijan’s former minister of national security, has been arrested in Lloret de Mar, Spain, lavanguardia.com reported.

According to the website, Mustafayev is accused of borrowing $285,000 from a businessman for the ex-ministers.

Efforts are underway to extradite him to Azerbaijan.

Mustafayev had fled Azerbaijan as his name was mentioned in the case filed against the ministry of national security.

Earlier, Azerbaijani law-enforcement agencies had issued an international arrest warrant for Mustafayev on corruption charges.
