An Azerbaijani citizen, who is on Interpol’s ‘wanted list’ for committing a serious crime, has been captured by the country’s border guards while attempting to illegally cross the border into Georgia, the State Border Service reported on Wednesday.

In a statement, the SBS said: “On March 21, Azerbaijani citizen Elgun Ismail Necat (born in 1987) was detained by the country’s border guards while attempting to illegally cross the border into Georgia. The investigation revealed that the trespasser is wanted by Interpol for committing a serious crime.”

The SBS noted that as a result of the operational-search measures, Gunduz Guliyev (born in 1962), a resident of Azerbaijan’s Aghstafa district, was also detained on suspicion of helping the trespasser flee the country.
