South Korea's health authorities reported on Tuesday nearly 100,000 new COVID-19 cases of the Omicron subvariant, prompting concerns about a new outbreak wave, APA reports citing Tele Trader.

According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, the country registered 99,327 positive tests over the previous day, nearly three times more compared to yesterday's tally and the highest figure since April.

The Defense Ministry said in a separate statement that the military saw another 1,980 COVID-19 cases today, with the majority of the cases registered within the ground forces.
