Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a fedral law on appointing ex-president a senator for life to the Federation Council, APA’s Moskow bureau reports citing the information posted on the Russian legal information portal.
The law has already entered into force.
Note that the draft law that allows ex-president being a senator for life upon expiration of the term of office has been adopted in the Russian State Duma on the 9th. The author of the wording of the law on the procedure for the formation of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly has been Vladimir Putin. The draft law has been presented in the framework of amendments to the constitution. According to the proposed innovations in the law, the Federation Council is consisted of the senators. The chambers include two representatives from each subject of the Russian Federation- one of them represents the legislation, other represents executive authorities. The president is appointed a senator for life as the term of office expires.
