"The Geneva talks on the South Caucasus, of which a new round was scheduled for March, have been suspended at the initiative of the UN, the European Union, and the OSCE," said the Director of the Fourth Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry for CIS Countries Denis Gonchar, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.

"As for the Geneva talks, the work in this format has been suspended. It is not our choice, the initiative belongs to the "troika" of the co-chairs (UN, EU, and OSCE). The 56th round of the talks, scheduled for the end of March, has been postponed indefinitely by their decision,” the Russian diplomat said.

According to him, these participants in discussions virtually "took hostage" the most important negotiation format, which made it possible to maintain security and stability in the region at an acceptable level:

"That is why they are fully responsible for the violation of negotiation. There are also logistical difficulties with the restrictive measures taken by the European Union and Switzerland against Russia. The European Union is one of the co-chairs of the Geneva talks, and Switzerland is the host country of this format".

The diplomat has added that unfriendly and politicized steps of the West "partners" do not help to strengthen stability and security in the South Caucasus, and may lead to instability in the region.
