Presidential Aide: "Immediately after provocation in the direction of Tovuz, relevant government agencies were given necessary instructions"

"Immediately after provocation in the direction of Tovuz, relevant government agencies were given necessary instructions," said Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Head of Foreign Policy Issues Department of the Administration Hikmat Hajiyev at a press conference held today, APA reports.

Mr. Hajiyev noted that the issue was fully assessed by President Ilham Aliyev at a meeting of the Security Council and the Cabinet of Ministers: "Prior to the events, Armenia adopted a new reactionary doctrine. This indicated that Armenia would commit provocation. Armenia adopted a new National Security Strategy On July 12, a sudden artillery shell was fired at our post in the direction of Tovuz. Armenia claims that UAZ approached the posts. This is unfounded. Azerbaijan has no military goals on the border with Armenia in the direction of Tovuz. Preparations are underway to transfer control of Azerbaijan's border with Armenia from the army to the Border Troops. This is pre-planned military aggression by Armenia."

Assistant to Azerbaijani President said that Armenia’s purpose was, first of all, to distract attention from Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict: “The purpose was to involve military-political organizations of which Armenia is a member, third parties, in the conflict, to overshadow successful works that Azerbaijan carries out in international level recently. At the same time to cause harm to East-West Transport Corridor, oil gas pipelines, to confront the region with new environmental disasters, to occupy new territories, to gain new advantages along the border, to distract attention from current internal problems in Armenia. Armenia also had intentions to compensate for the moral degradation prevailing in its army and the blows inflicted on the April and Gungut operations. Armenia was not able to achieve any of its goal.”

H. Hajiyev brought into attention that Azerbaijani Army prevented the enemy’s attack and aggression act: “Armenian Armed Forces was hit by worthy blow. The inviolability of our borders, the protection of civilians were ensured. The military-political leadership of Armenia bears responsibility for this aggressor act. Armenia continues to be a threat to the civilized world.”
