President: “Azerbaijan developed comprehensive Activity Plan regarding chairmanship over Non-Aligned Movement and started practical activity”

"Azerbaijan has come up with the initiative of implementation of the online Summit meeting of the Contact Group of the Non-Aligned Movement dedicated to the fight against coronavirus (COVID-19). It is gladdening that all member states of the Non-Aligned Movement have unanimously supported this initiative. The countries from all regional groups are represented in the Contact Group based on geographical representation and voluntary participation principle," said the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the Summit of the NAM's Contact Group which held through videoconference under the motto "United against COVID-19" focused on the fight against coronavirus pandemic, APA reports.

The head of state has expressed gratitude to the states included in Contact Group for participating in the summit: “At the same time, I express my gratitude to Chairman of the UN General Assembly, joining the summit, the Director-General of the World Health Organization and the chairman of the Commission of the African Union. I express my gratitude to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, High Representative of EU and Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell for their video appeal.”

President Ilham Aliyev noted XVIII Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement was held in Baku on October 25-26, 2019: “Principles of the international law have been reflected in the Baku Declaration and Baku Final Act, adopted at the Summit. At the same time a support to the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and inviolability of borders of states, reflected in Bandung principles, of which 65th anniversary has recently been celebrated, has been expressed in these documents once more. Azerbaijan will chair Non-Aligned Movement for 3 years with the support of 120 member states. I express my gratitude again for the great support, trust, and confidence, shown to us. While taking over the chairmanship, I declared Azerbaijan will take practical measures for the protection of interests of member states in the international arena, will be guided by strengthening solidarity and mutual support. Azerbaijan has prepared a comprehensive Action plan on its chairmanship in the Non-Aligned Movement and started the practical activity.”
