Russian Foreign Ministry: Strategic partnership with Azerbaijan is confirmed by statistics of bilateral contacts at the highest political level

Today marks the 29th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Azerbaijan. Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation is progressively developing in all directions, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in social networks, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.

It is noted that Azerbaijan is an important strategic partner of Russia: “This is confirmed by the statistics of bilateral contacts at the highest and high political levels. Over the past period, Russian President V. Putin and Azerbaijani President I. Aliyev held more than 100 negotiations in various formats. Active work is underway along the government line, at the level of parliaments, relevant ministries and departments, which objectively contributes to the strengthening of stability and security in the South Caucasus and the Caspian region. In 2020, Russia and Azerbaijan, based on the principles of good neighborliness, mutual assistance and equality, closely cooperated in the fight against COVID19. The ministers of health of our countries, heads of other specialized structures are in constant contact. At the suggestion of the Azerbaijani side, the Russian pharmaceutical company "R-Pharm" joined the organization of the joint production of the vaccine. The Russian Direct Investment Fund is working on the issue of supplying a batch of Sputnik V vaccines to Azerbaijan.

Contacts between the foreign ministers of the two states are regular.

As of early 2021, over 150 international legal acts have been signed between the two countries.

Azerbaijan is the main trade partner of Russia among the CIS countries that are not members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

The action plan for the development of key areas of Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation for the period up to 2024 forms the basis of our trade and economic cooperation and includes five roadmaps, which provide for the removal of barriers to trade, the development of transport infrastructure, the creation of joint science-intensive industries, the use of Russian technologies to improve the efficiency of the Azerbaijani economy, the growth of mutual tourist exchanges.

In November 2020, a new sixth roadmap was signed on cooperation in the field of innovative development and the digital economy.

Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation in the cultural, humanitarian and educational spheres continues to be one of the priority areas for the development of bilateral relations between our countries. Education in Russian is available in schools and universities of Azerbaijan.

Since 2010, a branch of the Lomonosov Moscow State University has been operating in Baku, and since 2015, a branch of the First Moscow State Medical University named after M.V. I.M.Sechenov (First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M.Sechenov). Work is underway to establish cooperation with Azerbaijani partners of other Russian universities, in particular, MGIMO, ”the publication of the Russian Foreign Ministry says.
